Here’s hoping for a busy year ahead
2012 certainly promises to be a busy year with the prospect of the London Olympics and the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee all looming large. Barely a news bulletin seems to go by without some mention of the forthcoming events and the hoped for boost to the economy that they will bring.
The Olympics in itself is proving to be a major source of demand within the bus sector, where the major manufacturers and operators are investing heavily in delivering new bus product to London to further improve the already modern fleet. Our two manufacturing partners, Wrightbus and ADL, both have exceptionally busy factories, with a high percentage of the vehicles in build destined for London. It is truly a showcase event for Britain with many thousands of people travelling to our capital and using public transport. The industry must also ensure that it does not miss the opportunity to show visitors from other parts of the UK, the real benefits on offer from using high quality public transport. Many people within our industry talk about ‘modal shift’ and getting people out of their cars – but surely the most effective way of delivering this, is to show the travelling public first hand what can be achieved when a local authority creates the correct integrated framework for operators to deliver their services efficiently.
Mistral continues to develop despite the challenging economic climate that we all find ourselves operating in. The high street banks still seem slow to fully commit to their promised lending projections, and it is the SME sector that is finding this especially challenging. We have an extensive panel of lenders within our Asset Finance business and we are proud of our ability to source finance at competitive rates for most of the operators that we deal with. Hopefully as the economy continues to stabilise the lenders will start to take a more expansive view and we can see further investment in to the industry. Within our bus business we have seen a positive start to the year, with new orders for both Wrightbus’ StreetLite and Alexander Dennis’ Enviro 200 range. Already the level of enquiries in the market seems considerably higher than at the same point last year and this can only bode well for a stronger performance through the rest of the year.
As a group we are definitely open for business, and would be pleased to discuss your requirements for vehicles or asset finance. We look forward to your call.
