MISTRAL AND WRIGHTBUS LAUNCH STREETLITE
The eagerly awaited launch of Wrightbus’ new midibus range, christened ‘StreetLite’, took place in Ballymena, Northern Ireland last week in front of an invited audience of trade press and customers.
The 2 day event held at a hotel close to Wrightbus’ Ballymena factory, launched the vehicle to an audience of trade press, local dignitaries and members of the Northern Ireland Assembly including the Enterprise Minister, Arlene Foster who cut the official ribbon. In her address at the launch she mentioned the fantastic work that Wrights had put in to the design and development of the new bus, and paid particular note to the attitude that prevailed throughout the factory of innovation. This innovation had lead to the business being more resilient than others in the recent downturn and seen them developing new products for both home and export markets.
Hosting the launch event, Mark Nodder, Wrightbus Group Managing Director, paid tribute to the workforce at the factory and the dedicated design team under the leadership of New Product Director, Damian McGarry, who had produced such an exciting vehicle. The innovative vehicle is fully designed to meet the latest regulations contained in the new European Whole Vehicle Type Approval, and is able to maximise seating capacity for each of its design lengths to offer up to 4 more seats than its closest competitor.
Wrightbus has chosen to distribute the product through sales and rental specialist, Mistral Group, who have been involved from an early time in the project to ensure that the bus meets target operator’s aspirations. Mistral announced a 60 vehicle order at the launch, and also confirmed that they had a number of very interested customers who had committed to take vehicles in to their fleets.
The launch marks the end of an 18 month, accelerated design and development programme that has taken a futuristic concept and turned it into an attractive reality that will hit the streets in September of this year. Speaking at the launch, Mistral’s Commercial Director Steve Low, said; “Mistral is extremely excited to have the opportunity of representing such a prestige brand as Wrightbus, in their return to the extremely competitive midibus sector. We have seen this product evolve of the past year and a half and can only see the vast potential that it has.”
The 8.8m model – seating 33 passengers and the 9.5m model seating 37 passengers, will be available from September this year with the longer 10.8m variant that seats 41 passengers being available from February 2011.
